SAY NO MORE “DOMESTIC VIOLENCE”

In my view, the most neglected social issue, never be highlighted or be discussed in the developing countries, importantly in Pakistan. Situation worsened day by day. This issue is the mother of many other social issues to be found in our society like deaths, injuries and disabilities, homelessness. Emotional and psychological trauma, drugs etc.

PROCESS

I have reached to the victims who reported their happening in respective police stations in Lahore, and reached them with prior permission and their consent.

The incidents are being shared as summarized stories to get deep insight into the issue:

FIRST VICTIM

This is N…., a graduate from well reputed university. Belong to middle class paternal family. She was beaten and threatened for severe consequences for not bringing as much dowry as her in laws expected. She had a message for us, “Do not let the society to take you for granted.”

SECOND VICTIM

This is Ms. A……., her husband doing job in Dubai. Attacked and beaten by her brother in law for just not giving him the dinner meal on time. Her opinion “Being women in this society is in itself an issue”.

THIRD VICTIM

This is S………… bibi. A 55 years old lady who is suffering the torture of her husband since 25 years, three days ago her husband and son beaten her badly with the intention to kill her just to grab the inherited land which she just received from her brothers one month ago. Her message was inspiring “Apne bacho ki tarbiyat ko zindagi me sab se zada ehmiyat dena, rozi kamane se zada zruri olad ki tarbiyat hai”.

P.S: Pictures were taken blur and uncleared advertently, to protect and secure the sanctity of the victims.

PITCH

According to a study carried out by Human Rights Watch, it is estimated that between 20 and 30 percent of women in Pakistan have suffered from domestic violence.

Whenever I get the report regarding this kind of awful incidents, I feel myself helpless for not doing something extraordinary to eradicate this evil from its root causes. I found a way to organize a community/group that will do campaign regarding this issue to raise at every forum. We can arrange the seminars and awareness campaigns for the youth in their educational and professional places. So by doing this little effort we can urge our youngsters to not follow such kind of practices of domestic violence in their own personal lives. Sooner or later we will curb this evil from its roots.

WHAT I GAINED

I learned a new perspective to handle/deal with the larger issues which just need our little attention, throughout performing this activity. I have gained insight and little effort solution to the problem which pains me a lot. I would like to thank Amal team for giving us a chance to work on the issues which we think needed to sort out.
